Lipo Sculpting vs Cool Sculpting

Updated: Feb 23, 2019

Total Body Aesthetic was founded due to the growth in demand for noninvasive body modification procedures. This recent growth has resulted in a variety of methods being offered, but it’s important that patients know exactly what type of treatment they’ll be receiving and the benefits that it can provide. The team at Total Body Aesthetic is fully dedicated to providing patients with the BEST noninvasive procedures available.

Two of the most popular noninvasive treatments on the market are Lipo Sculpting and Cool Sculpting, and although they may seem very similar in nature, there are some more differences between them.

Lipo Sculpting

Lipo Sculpting is also referred to as Laser Liposuction or Laser Lipolysis. Here is how the friendly staff at Total Body Aesthetic describes the procedure:

“Liposculpt or Laser Lipo Body Contouring is done with a High intensity light that transmits thermal energy into the subcutaneous fat cells, creating a chemical signal that causes the fat cell to break down the stored triglycerides into free fatty acids and glycerol, releasing them though the cell membrane causing the cell to shrink through contraction. The fatty acids are then transported around the body to the tissues that will use them to create energy. Exercise after the procedure is required to metabolize the free fatty acids for permanent results. Liposculpt is the easiest procedure to perform and can be down while performing other procedures simultaneously.”

Jason C. McBean, MD and Bruce E. Katz, MD published an article that can be found in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health that points out many of the clear advantages of Laser Lipolysis. They together state that “In our experience with more than 2,000 cases, most patients are able to return to normal daily activities within 1.5 days.” In fact in many cases, patients were able to return to their normal daily activities directly after the treatment.

Another advantage that the pair brings to light is the overall safety of the procedure. With the downtime being so short, coupled with the noninvasive nature of the treatment, it’s easy to see why doctors would believe this is one of the safest treatments that any patient could receive.

The advantages don’t stop there. McBean and Katz, who have studied the procedure of Lipo Sculpting believe “the well-established and reviewed skin-tightening effect is perhaps the most significant advantage of laser lipolysis” Simply stating that the best advantages are the overall results of the procedure. There’s not only an external difference in patients, but many feel one internally as well.

Charlie Hilton Andersen, a writer for Shape Magazine, had someone describe the post-treatment feeling as this, “I felt rejuvenated like after a good massage and I could get more done in the day. Patients instantly feel an increase in energy and are able to complete more tasks throughout the day!

Cool Sculpting

According to coolsculpting.com, a platform dedicated to providing people with information on this style of fat-removal, describes the procedure as such: "a procedure that targets the fat cells underneath the skin. Treated fat cells are crystalized (frozen), then die. Over time, the body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells.

Despite the similarities between Laser Lipolysis and Cool Sculpting, there are far more risks associated with the latter." A recent study indicated that after receiving their Cool Sculpting treatments, patients experienced pain lasting on average between three to eleven days. This is much longer than the pain associated with the procedures provided through Total Body Aesthetic.

In addition to the nagging pain and extended recovery time associated with Cool Sculpting, the procedure is commonly perceived as inefficient and unnatural. Cool Sculpting procedures only have the capability to treat miniscule areas at a time, which can cause body shape to look disproportionate and unappealing. With Lipo Sculpting, treatments are done once a week, giving patients the luxury of experiencing gradual fat reduction. This procedure is for more natural and unnoticeable than any type of Cool Sculpting treatment that one could receive.

There is also a lot of redness, bruising, and swelling that comes with this procedure and many patients experience these irritations of the skins for weeks, if not months. This is why it’s important to have a thorough consultation with a medical professional before determining which treatment is best for you.
