A tired-looking eye area isn’t one diagnosis. A shadow might come from a hollow, pigmentation or a raised bag beside it. A heavy upper lid might reflect brow position rather than the eyelid itself. Choosing a device or injectable before understanding that difference can lead to mismatched expectations.
At Total Body Aesthetic in Westchester, Los Angeles 90045, our eye restoration treatments bring these concerns into one assessment. This guide explains EMFACE, PDGF, EZ Gel PRF and ResurFX—and the questions worth bringing to your consultation near LAX.
Start with the concern, not the treatment
Several causes can coexist. The comparison below is a conversation starter, not a way to diagnose your eyes from a photograph.
| Concern | Option to discuss | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Heavy-looking upper lids | EMFACE facial treatment | Brow support differs from true eyelid ptosis. |
| Under-eye hollows or shadows | PDGF or EZ Gel PRF | Skin quality and volume loss need separate assessment. |
| Fine lines and mild laxity | ResurFX | Fractional laser, not IPL; eye protection is essential. |
| Bags or puffiness | EMFACE under-eye applicator | Structural or medical causes may need another approach. |
Heavy eyelids: where EMFACE fits
EMFACE facial treatment combines muscle stimulation with radiofrequency (RF). It addresses facial muscle support and skin quality, which may contribute to a more open, refreshed upper-face appearance in selected patients.
That is different from correcting true ptosis, where the eyelid itself sits abnormally low. Excess eyelid skin and brow position also require assessment. EMFACE is not a ptosis treatment or a replacement for medical or surgical evaluation when indicated.
Sudden eyelid drooping or vision changes need prompt medical care, not a cosmetic consultation. Mention existing eye conditions and previous eye surgery before considering treatment.
Hollows: PDGF and EZ Gel PRF are different
Under-eye volume loss can deepen the transition between the lower lid and cheek. But a dark circle is not automatically a volume problem: pigmentation, swelling and thin skin can create a similar impression.
PDGF refers to platelet-derived growth factor. The approach described in our service guide focuses on the appearance and quality of delicate skin. Ask which preparation and delivery method your provider proposes; the name alone does not tell you how your under-eye concern will be addressed.
EZ Gel PRF uses a preparation derived from your own blood, involving platelet-rich fibrin. Its source and preparation differ from the PDGF approach. It may be considered for selected under-eye rejuvenation goals, but neither option guarantees instant filler-like volume or complete correction of hollows. Our PRF versus PRP guide adds background on those terms.
Texture and tightening: ResurFX, not IPL
For fine lines, uneven texture and mild under-eye laxity, a provider may consider ResurFX fractional nonablative laser. Its approach supports collagen remodeling rather than replacing lost volume or removing a structural bag.
ResurFX and IPL appear together on our Lumenis service page, but they are different modalities. IPL uses intense pulsed light; it is not the fractional laser tightening approach described here. Treatment near the eyes requires clinically appropriate eye protection, careful placement and settings, and a qualified provider’s assessment. Skin type, medical history and healing considerations affect suitability.
Bags: the dedicated EMFACE under-eye option
The EMFACE under-eye applicator offers a needle-free option for selected patients concerned about bags and puffiness. Assessment considers the bags, surrounding skin and health history—not just how prominent they look in one photo.
The goal is cosmetic improvement, not promised permanent fat removal. Structural bags or medically related swelling may need a different approach. Ask what the treatment can reasonably change in your particular anatomy.
A more rested appearance starts with understanding what is creating the shadow, heaviness or puffiness—not choosing every treatment at once.
Your consultation, step by step
- Describe your priority. Explain whether heaviness, hollows, texture or bags bother you most, and whether the appearance changes during the day.
- Share your history. Bring medications, previous treatments and details of eye conditions or surgery. Your provider assesses the upper and lower eye area.
- Compare suitable options. Discuss limitations, treatment method, risks, eye protection and alternatives—including medical evaluation or no cosmetic treatment.
- Plan recovery and review. Ask about aftercare, timing around commitments and how progress will be reassessed before deciding.
What realistic improvement looks like
Improvements may develop over time, and treatment response and maintenance needs vary. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising may occur; laser treatment may involve additional healing and sun-care requirements. Combining treatments is a clinical decision, not an automatic package. Gallery photographs illustrate individual outcomes, not a promised result, timeline or permanence.
Frequently asked questions
Can EMFACE correct true eyelid ptosis?
No. A refreshed upper-face appearance is not correction of true ptosis. Eyelid drooping needs appropriate medical assessment; sudden drooping or vision changes require prompt medical care.
Will PDGF or EZ Gel PRF instantly fill hollows?
Neither guarantees immediate filler-like volume. Your provider explains the proposed method, likely progression and limitations after evaluating whether the shadow comes from volume loss, pigmentation or another cause.
Is under-eye ResurFX the same as IPL?
No. ResurFX is a fractional nonablative laser; IPL uses intense pulsed light. Treatment near the eyes requires provider assessment and clinically appropriate eye protection, not an interchangeable device choice.
How many visits will I need?
That depends on the selected treatment, your anatomy and your response. Ask for an individualized schedule, recovery guidance and a reassessment plan rather than assuming the gallery’s treatment count applies to you.
